Mga higala! The Supreme Court (SC) has officially ruled that converting to Islam just to marry a 2nd spouse is still considered bigamy!
ICYDK, bigamy is the act of entering into a marriage with one person while still legally married to another.
According to reports, SC determined that converting to Islam won’t spare offenders from the charges or criminal liability of the said act.
Based on the 17-page decision signed by Associate Justice Marvic Leonen:
“A party to a civil marriage who converts to Islam and contracts another marriage, despite the first marriage’s subsistence, is guilty of bigamy.”
