29 Nov Couple Dies After Eating Shellfish @ Surigao del Sur
Mga higala! A couple died last Wednesday, November 27, after eating SHELLFISH harvested from the Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur!
According to a report by the Philippine News Agency, the said couple, identified as Leonito and Lucia Namoc, ate uncooked shellfish, locally known as “kinilaw” before losing consciousness. They were then brought to a nearby hospital but died just hours after.
The authorities have confirmed that shellfish poisoning caused the couple’s death and detected that samples collected from Lianga Bay are now positive with red tide toxins.
Below is an advisory from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Caraga Region (BFAR-13) confirming the presence of red tide in Lianga Bay, and warning residents to refrain from eating and gathering shellfish from the area:
