30 Apr COVID-19 Now A Compensable Work-Related Disease
Mga higala! COVID-19 is now a compensable work-related disease or illness!
In a recently issued resolution, the coronavirus disease has been officially included by the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) in its list of occupational and work-related diseases.
This means that Filipino workers who have been and will be infected by COVID-19 will finally be able to receive appropriate compensation from the national government, through the ECC. This good news was announced by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
Moreover, the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has been ordered by the ECC to “streamline the processing of EC claims of workers for diseases, including COVID-19, that were acquired in the line of duty during outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics.”
