14 Nov Administrative Aide at CPO Apprehended, Charged with Violation of Direct Bribery and Robbery Extortion
Following the entrapment operation conducted by the elements of the City Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-CDOC) and Police Station PS-3, an employee of the City Prosecutor’s Office (CPO) was apprehended for bribery and extortion on November 11, Friday.
According to a report from Sun.Star, the authorities identified the suspect as Genard Abejo, 47 years old, is a resident of Barangay Puntod and an Administrative Aide at the CPO.
The suspect was seized at around 5:50 p.m. at a Shell Mini Mart in Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City.
The operation was inclined by the reports from the suspect’s extortion victims, according to Police Chief Inspector Melgar Alejandro Devaras, the deputy regional chief of the CIDG-Northern Mindanao.
Abejo was said to have targeted on families of individuals who has cases pending at the CPO.
Documents on a case by rape and cyber crime case and 10,000 used in the operation, among others were confiscated from Abejo.
Also recovered by the authorities were a Lenovo cell phone, P300,000 bogus money, a Honda motorcycle and a five-page document labeled Resolution for Violation of RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act and Violation of RA 9995 or Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism signed by Ble-Sirey Labuntog, Senior Assistant at the CPO dated October 14, 2016.
The suspect has been receiving money from the families of the arrested suspects in exchange for the supposed reducing of charges against the accused family members, according to Devaras.
