01 Sep DA Introduced “Brown Rice for Good” Challenge
Department of Agriculture (DA) urge to use brown rice or unpolished rice as it contains almost five times the fiber and 2 times the iron of white rice.
On August 30, Tuesday, DA Supervising Agriculturist for Northern Mindanao, Audy Maagad said during the press conference held at Cagayan de Oro City that people should try healthier substitute to white rice.
Maagad added that aside from root crops, brown rice is more nutritious as it contains fibrous bran, nutritious germ, and the carb-rich endosperm, unlike white rice, the bran and germ were removed which are the most nutritious parts of the grain and is pure carbohydrate.
The bottom line is that brown rice is much higher in nutrients than white rice since it has fiber, antioxidants, B vitamins, minerals and good fats.
Recently, DA has launched its “Brown Rice for Good” challenge to advocate its consumption by the public and help charities at the same time. This is a social media campaign encouraging netizens to participate by uploading their photos of meals with brown rice with a hashtag #BROWNrice4good(your region) and challenge friends by tagging them to do the same.
