DA Confirms Mekeni Longganisa & Hotdog Tested Positive For African Swine Fever

Mekeni

Mga higala! The Bureau of Animal Industry of the Department of Agriculture (DA) has confirmed that samples of MEKENI FOOD CORP‘s Skinless Longganisa and Picnic Hotdog tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF)!

The ASF tests were conducted last October 25, just a day before Mekeni voluntarily recalled all of its pork-based products.

An investigation regarding the source of meat for the longganisa and hotdog will be conducted next.

ICYDK, African swine fever is a viral disease impacting only pigs, not people—so it is not a public health threat nor food-safety concern. ASF cannot be transmitted to humans through contact with pigs or pork.  –www.pork.org
