DENR To Ban Plastic Straws & Stirrers In The Philippines

Mga higala! The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has announced that they will soon be banning plastic drinking straws and coffee stirrers in the country!

According to the DENR, these items have finally been included by the National Solid Waste Management Commission in the list of non-environmentally acceptable products (NEAP).

In a recent virtual en banc meeting, the said ban on plastic straws and stirrers was discussed and was concluded with 11 votes for approval and 3 votes against.

To be implemented, the resolution for this ban will now need to be ratified by the heads of concerned agencies.

Watch out for updates!

(ICYDK, based on the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 or RA 9003, items included in the NEAP list should be prohibited the Commission.)
