04 Mar DepEd to conduct Random Drug Test for students, teachers, employees
The Department of Education announced last March 3, 2017 their support in the government’s war on illegal drugs by conducting random drug test for secondary students, elementary and secondary school teachers as well as officers of its central office, regional office and division, according to a report from Manila Bulletin.
This is based on Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002. Under the RA students of secondary and tertiary schools shall undergo a random drug test. The test should be pursuant to the related rules and regulations as contained in the student’s handbook with notice to the parents.
RA 9165 also requires officers and employees of public and private offices to undergo random drug test.DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones that the students shall undergo an orientation seminar before the conduct of random drug test. This is to provide awareness on various aspects of drug testing. DepEd shall conduct the orientation seminar on drug testing starting this April.
