The Department of Education on Thursday has stopped all field trips in public elementary and high schools following the gruesome bus accident last Monday in Tanay Rizal that killed 15 people and injured students from BestLink College of the Philippines.

In a report from Philippine Star, DepEd explained that the moratorium only applies for public schools and explained that the exclusion of private schools is due to the direct responsibilities of the private institution in their activities.

The Commission on Higher Education has already suspended all field trips for colleges and universities, however, DepEd moratorium would be in effect until the opening of classes in June to allow the agency to review and harmonize implementing rules across the region.

Schools who have already secured a permit and have finalized their contracts can proceed provided that they follow the strict guidelines on safety and security.

The moratorium came after the gruesome bus accident. BCP students were on their way to an educational tour as part of their National Service Training Program in a resort in Tanay when the bus lost control of the breaks and rammed into an electric post.
