DepEd Moves Opening Of Classes To August For SY 2020-2021

Mga higala! The Department of Education (DepEd) will be moving the opening of classes from June to August, due to the still ongoing threat of COVID-19 in the Philippines!

In today’s public briefing, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that they have chosen August 24, 2020, as the opening date for the new school year, and it is set to end by April 30, 2021.

Briones then stressed that their priority is to protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of learners, so not all students are required to be physically present starting on the said date and virtual classes may be held, especially on areas under lockdown.

Moreover, national events like Palarong Pambansa, Brigada Eskwela, Science Fairs, etc. will be temporarily canceled in regions under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
