DOH Declares National Dengue Epidemic: Over 146,000 Cases Recorded This 2019

Mga higala! The Department of Health (DOH) has officially declared a NATIONAL DENGUE EPIDEMIC yesterday, August 6, 2019, due to the rising number of cases of the mosquito-borne disease in the Philippines.

According to the DOH, 622 people have died because of dengue as of July 2019, and 146,062 dengue cases have been recorded from January to July, which is 98% higher compared to the same period last 2018.

Below are the number of cases from the most affected regions in the country this 2019, based on DOH data:

  • Western Visayas: 23,330
  • Calabarzon: 16,515
  • Zamboanga Peninsula: 12,317
  • Northern Mindanao: 11,455
  • Soccsksargen: 11,083
  • Bicol region: 3,470
  • Eastern Visayas: 7,199
