08 Jun DOJ to appeal SC’s decision on assigning CdeO courts to take over Maute cases
The Department of Justice will appeal to the Supreme Court to change its decision of putting in charge the Regional Trial Court in Cagayan de Oro City to take cases against Maute rebel group member and other individuals responsible for the attacks in Marawi City.
In an article from eaglenews.ph, Justice Secretary, Vitaliano Aguirre, said that it would be better if the special courts handling cases related to the violence in Marawi City will be located somewhere in Luzon or Visayas and far from Mindanao.
Aguirre also expressed his concerns to anyone taking part in the case proceedings in the CdeO RTC being intimidated and harmed by the terrorist forces.
On Tuesday, June 6, the Supreme Court granted Aguirre’s request to create a special court which will handle cases related to the terrorism in Marawi City but did not make any court branches in Visayas and Luzon to be in charge.
