DOLE Releases Advisory Regarding August 21 & 31 Holidays

Mga higala! The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released an advisory regarding the special (non-working) day on August 21 and the regular holiday on August 31, 2020!

ICYDK, August 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day and August 31 is the National Heroes Day.

The said advisory, Labor Advisory No. 27, s. 2020, talks about the rules for the payment of wages on the mentioned holidays:

SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY, Ninoy Aquino Day

  • No work, no pay (unless there is a company policy that grants payment on special days)
  • Employees working on this day will receive an additional 30% of their basic wage
  • For overtime, additional 30% of an employees hourly rate will be given

REGULAR HOLIDAY, National Heroes Day

  • Employees will be paid 100% of their daily wage even without work
  • Employees who will work on this day will receive 200% of their wage for that day
  • For overtime, additional 30% on their hourly rate will be given

However, according to DOLE, employers are allowed to defer payment of the holiday pay on August 31 if their respective company’s operations have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
