DOST Finally Starts Operation Of Nuclear Facility In PH (After 34 Years)

Mga higala! After around 34 long years, the Philippines now has an operating NUCLEAR facility!

This is after the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) finally launched its Philippine Research Reactor-1 Subcritical Assembly for Training, Education, and Research (PRR-1 SATER) last Monday, June 20!

ICYMI, the PNRI has successfully loaded all of the 44 fuel rods for the facility’s 1st nuclear reactor.

BTW, this nuclear facility aims to:

  • help in the re-establishing of PH’s nuclear capabilities
  • train reactor operators, users, and regulators
  • provide support for nuclear education programs and nuclear-related courses
  • and more!
