23 Feb DPWH To Widen Water Passages at Limketkai and Brgy. Carmen
To solve the flood woes in Cagayan de Oro City, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 10 proposed to widen water passages or channels of the creeks to prevent clogging.
According to a report from Sun.Star, aside from boosting the development of drainage system in the city, DPWH is also considering to widen the creeks which will be one of the long-term solutions to flooding.
These plans and solutions were discussed by a group of engineers from the DPWH and the City Council on February 21, Tuesday.
A DPWH Engineer, Saivan Valendez said that the widening is necessary as he cites the Bitan-ag Creek where it needs to be widened by around 12 meters.
He said that widening is a very reasonable plan, however they can’t initiate it due to the road right-of-way problems (RROW) and that there are many people and huge establishments within the area, so they the local government to settle this.
And to prevent the existing sewers and canals to be clogged by waste, it should be cleaned regularly.
Now, the drainage system in areas near Limketkai and in some parts near Gumamela Street in Barangay Carmen are being developed by the DPWH.
