Since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office last June 30, prices of illegal drugs in Mindanao dropped leaving traders no choice but to consider closing shop. This was reported by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) which indicated that the prices of shabu has now decreased to P4,500 to P5,000 from P7,000 to 10,000.

“Illegal drug suppliers have resorted to ‘bagsak presyo,’ due to the law of demand and supply,” said Chief Inspector Marvin Mendoza, PDEA-ARMM operations officer.

According to the said anti-drug agency, the decline in prices of illegal drugs is being interpreted as an “apparent act of closeout sale” by drug pushers as a result of the operations of Duterte’s administration in clamping down the source of prohibited substances.

Also, the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Oplan Tokhang has seriously weaken the demand as said by Mendoza, “There has been a lack of buyers due to Oplan Tokhang.”
