It can be recalled that there was an observed surge in the number of admissions in the government-owned drug treatment and rehabilitation center (TRC) in Cagayan de Oro since the last quarter of last year 2015. Reaching 42 patient admissions in June alone, the highest number recorded yet for this year.

TRC currently houses 162 rehab patients which has already exceeded the actual number of 50 the facility could only admit, accepting male patients only. As of the last week of June, more than 1,000 drug users and pushers have surrendered to officials in the city.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Surigao City also fear that there won’t be enough rehab centers to accommodate the thousands of self-confessed drug users who have submitted to authorities.

“We are afraid that we cannot accommodate them all,” as said by an official at the Caraga Regional Rehabilitation Center (CRRC).

CRRC is the only government-owned drug treatment and rehabilitation center (TRC) in the CARAGA region consisted of 4 provinces and 6 cities and which can only accommodate 100 patients.
