02 Nov DSWD Allocates P60M to End Malnutrition in ARMM
P60 million budget from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be allocated to deal with the malnutrition in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
On October 31, Monday, Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said that a program dubbed as the Bangsamoro Umpungan sa Nutrisyon (BANGUn) headed by the DSWD Undersecretary for Institutional Development Mae Fe Ancheta-Templa will be carried out in 15 months.
The program intends to “engage the active participation of the children, parents, communities and concerned LGUs in the entire process of project implementation; harmonize the technical assistance and services of different government agencies in addressing hunger and malnutrition among children 0-12 years old in ARMM; ensure access of children to culturally-appropriate foods available in the local communities; and increase the weight of underweight and severely underweight children after 180 days of nutrition support.”
To improve the nutritional state of children aged zero to 12 in barangays, schools, and evacuation camps, the project will be implemented and be put into effect.
Most children in ARMM were identified as stunted (low height for age), wasted (low weight for height) and underweight (low weight for age).
Prioritized areas are Mamasapano, Datu Salibo and Datu Piang towns in Maguindanao and Jolo and Patikul in Sulu.
