Mga higala! Since the CHRISTMAS season is almost here, and most of us have started purchasing decorations for our homes, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) would like to remind the public to only buy CERTIFIED Christmas lights!

According to a report by Sunstar CDO, DTI Provincial Director Esperanza Melgar stated that consumers should be smart and careful when buying decorations that use electricity.

Melgar expressed that everyone should look for the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker or the printed Philippine Standard (PS) mark when purchasing and using Christmas lights.

“Those products that do not have the proper markings and labels do not meet the standards and may pose danger as these may cause a fire. They may ask for a copy of the actual certificate to check the veracity of the product’s quality and certification,” Melgar added.

DTI also added that Christmas light brands and other electronics that do not bear PS and ICC marks did not undergo proper checking, and could cost lives and properties.
