25 Sep DTI Warns Public Against Text Message Scams
In an article posted by Sunstar.com, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- Northern Mindanao informed the public to be vigilant against text messages scams.
This was after the DTI-Lanao del Norte Office received questions regarding the reliability of raffle draw prizes that involves a big amount of money.
Provincial Director of DTI-Lanao del Norte, Ruel Paclipan, said that since the government cannot totally exterminate text scams, the public should be vigilant and be careful themselves, and pay extra attention to text messages involving money.
He added that people must first verify with the appropriate agencies or offices before responding on such text messages.
One way to identify scam messages is that if it comes from an 11-digit mobile phone number while the credible ones are coming from numbers that are labeled properly.
On the other hand, DTI-Northern Mindanao said that some of these messages are intended to extort money or load credits by tricking the owner of the number.
