14 Sep President Duterte Accused “Yellow” People of Planning to Unseat Him
On September 12, Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte accused loyal supporters of his predecessor for agitating “intrigues” against him by saying that he is responsible for the killings of about 3,000 individuals in his war against illegal drugs.
According to president Duterte, these “Yellow” people, whom he did not name – but was certainly referring to individuals in the Liberal Party – could be planning for his impeachment. But he responded with, “they can think that if they can build a case against me, I’ll be impeached… In this quest of mine, I am prepared to lose my honor, my life, and the presidency.”
President Duterte has marked the American government for allegedly moralizing about human rights in spite of its past atrocities. He called the American leaders “hypocrites” for criticizing him for human rights violation while infringing on the rights of other people.
The president also showed photos of the Bud Dajo massacre during last Thursday’s East Asian Summit in Laos, where US forces killed Moro rebels and civilians during the Filipino-American war. This is to illustrate America’s history of violating human rights while assailing other countries’ records.
He stressed that he never called Barack Obama, current U.S. President, a “son of a bitch” but the US leader attacked him for admonishing him to face crime “the right way” and not a short-circuit due process. He also said that Obama and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon did not even bother to obtain evidence to prove that he had ordered the killings, saying they only “ride” on the human rights issues against him.
As he spoke, “Sumakay itong si Obama. Sumakay si Ban Ki Moon. Dito sumakay. Alam mo kung kaninong laro ito? Yellow yan.”
The color yellow is associated with the Liberal Party because of the previous president, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and the middle-class forces associated with his family’s democracy campaign in the 70s and 80s, have taken yellow as their signature color.
Recently, President Duterte criticized the Senate’s Justice committee chair Leila de Lima, for forcing a congressional probe about the extrajudicial killings that have ruined his campaign against illegal drugs.
The “yellow” forces if ever are already planning an impeachment case against him, the President said he won’t back down.
