28 Apr Duterte Administration To Reach Out To Armed Groups To End Conflict in Mindanao
PDP-Laban president Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III guaranteed that their party’s standard-bearer, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte, will “go out of his way” and reach out to armed groups in order to achieve lasting peace in Mindanao, to put the armed conflict to an end that has been existing decades-long already.
“We will continue the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and strive to work towards the establishment of a mutually acceptable Bangsamoro political entity within the framework of a federal system of government,” Pimentel said.
Regarding to the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), founding chairman Nur Misuari will be encouraged to actively participate and attend in any dialogue for peace in Muslim Mindanao as Pimentel added. To the New People’s Army (NPA), Duterte administration would resume negotiations to them at the national level and toil for a comprehensive peace agreement which would include social, economic and political reforms. While for those armed groups who will seek to cause terror and try to divide the country, the said administration will run after them.
“We will not only restore peace in Mindanao in the same way that Mayor Duterte made Davao City one of the safest cities in the world, we will see to it that the Philippines will become one of the safest and most peaceful countries in the world,” Pimentel said.
Lastly, Pimentel said that the long-term solution to armed conflict in Mindanao is socio-economic development. With this, poverty incidence will be reduced and substantially improve everyone’s living conditions, may they be Muslim, Christian or indigenous peoples.
