29 Jun Duterte Administration to Focus Development in Mindanao
Mindanao’s local business sector is seeing the transformation of the region once Mindanao Railway System, which has been long overdue, is realized. And according to Pedro Rufo N. Soliven, governor for Western Mindanao of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc., “The project will definitely boost economic activities thru interconnectivity and accessibility of products and people of Mindanao.”
In an interview with Soliven, he repeated the call for the said Mindanao-wide project to be pushed through saying that it was one of the projects listed in the roster for Mindanao which is given priority and endorsed by the Regional Development Council-09 (RDC) through the National Economic Development Authority.
In Zamboanga Peninsula, abaca, mangoes, sardines, rubber, coconut and seaweeds are considered the administrative region’s six champion products. However, local farmers find it difficult to transport their products to other areas in Mindanao due to insufficiency of proper shipping and transport in the region. Which then can be solved via the Mindanao Railway System.
As added by Soliven, “The Mindanao Railway System project is one of the imperatives… The project is aimed at making economic growth inclusive and felt,” and that, “It will make Mindanao not just a land of promise, but a land of promised fulfilled.”
Among the members of the Mindanao block who are looking forward to the realization of the railway system is Zamboanga City’s 1st District lawmaker Celso L. Lobregat, saying that he is optimistic that the incoming Duterte administration will be giving more focus to Mindanao concerning its development.
