03 Dec Duterte calls for Unity during Armm Summit
President Rodrigo Duterte asked for unity in resolving armed conflict in Mindanao during the Third Local Government Unit summit of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Duterte pointed out that there has been no action from the Moro and the national government in the past to bring an end to the armed struggle.
He also pushed for the adoption of federalism which he perceived to bring national stability in the country.
“Alam mo sa totoo lang ang pinaka-structure na acceptable aside from the extremist is really federal set up,” he said.
However, the congress seemed worried about extremism in the Philippines that could undermine the President’s plan to shift to federalism, according to the president.
He called on the Muslim people to unite and shun violence as some radical Muslims in Mindanao sow chaos in some communities.
The president also expressed his interest in bringing developmental projects in ARMM. He plans to open Jolo for trade and give houses to poor Muslims.
“But what you should understand from me, at believe me, na gusto ko talagang mangyari ‘yung dapat mangyari and that is a semblance of your territory, your governance and the happiness of the Moro people,” the President said.
