Duterte Awards Gold Cross Medals and Wounded Personnel Medals to 4ID Soldiers in His Visit at CDO Military Camp

Last August 9, 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte visited Camp Evangelista in Barangay Patag here in Cagayan de Oro City where the headquarters of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) is situated. And in a ceremony, he awarded medals to some of the 4ID soldiers.

Nine officers and enlisted personnel were awarded with gold cross medals by Duterte for their gallant act during an encounter with roughly 80 heavily armed members of the New People’s Army (NPA) at Sitio Kambangon, Barangay Lilingayon in Valencia City, Bukidnon which happened last August 5, 2016.

Following are the names of gold cross medal awardees:

  • 1Lt Lorefel O. Judaya
  • 2Lt Marvin S. Jacinto
  • 2lt Jehiel P. Liw-agan
  • 2Lt Aljosh Iman A. Arreola
  • Sgt Harold D. Nimenzo
  • Cpl Raelcum T. Mendador
  • Cpl Brendo C. Espiritu
  • PFC Jaynard E. Llander.

The mentioned troops are under 1st Special Forces Battalion, Special Forces (Airborne), Special Operations Command, Philippine Army which is controlled by the 403rd Infantry Brigade of 4ID.

2 enlisted personnel namely PFC Ricky Borja and Richelle V. Sandigas were given wounded personnel medal for they were wounded in action during the second encounter with the rebels at the same area. Currently, they are confined at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH).

Duterte also visited the vigil of PFC Ricardo T. Simbajon, killed in the clash against the NPA rebels last August 5, 2016, in a mortuary located inside Camp Evangelista, still in this city.

Some 25 firearms confiscated by the military from the NPA in various encounters in the regions of Caraga and Northern Mindanao were also presented to Duterte by Major General Benjamin Madrigal. Displayed at the 4ID gym were nine M16, seven M14, three M653, three AK47, and one cal.30 garand rifle.
