22 Jun Duterte guarantees self-governing territory for Bangsamoro people
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said last Tuesday, June 20, that Bangsamoro people could finally have their own recognized homeland in three years time.
In an article from Inquirer.net, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is expected to submit the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) to the President which he may sign at the end of the celebration of Eid’l Fitr.
The President said that he will approve the draft if he sees things are in order and will then have the final document to be approved by the Congress.
He also said that the BBL will pave the way for the conversion of the country from a Republic to a peaceful Federalism as MILF chair Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Nur Misuari have been pressing forward in years.
The President also stressed out, during an encounter with the Marawi evacuees in Iligan City, that he will actually push for the passage of the BBL to the congress since he believes that it help achieve positive outcomes for the country.
He also said that he shares the same sentiment in giving the Moros a recognized territory as what the MILF members have long been crying out to the government.
