03 Aug Duterte ratifies law extending the validity of passport and driver’s license
In an article from Philstar.com, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has already signed into law the Republic Act 10928 which extends the validity of passport from 5 to 10 years and driver’s license to 5 years.
The provisions of the law, however, does not include minors or those who are under 18 years who are only allowed to be issued with passports with validities of only five years.
Under the new law, the 10-year validity of the passport may be reduced to less than 10 years if the national economic interest or political stability of the country require it.
On the other hand, the five-year validity of the driver’s license under the law can be extended up to 10 years if the holder does not commit any violation.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) was ordered to impose stricter rules on the issuance of the driver’s license which include theoretical and practical examinations.
The connivance of applicants with LTO officers on illegal issuance of the license, falsification of documents, and misrepresenting information and cheating during the examination constitutes a fine up to P20,000, licenses revocation, and barred from applying a license for two years of the applicant.
