12 Aug Duterte to Tax Evaders: Pay your taxes or you won’t be able to travel
“If you are a violator, mayaman ka (you’re rich) and you travel, you cannot travel anymore,” warned by President Rodrigo Duterte during a press conference last August 8, 2016. “I will tell the immigration ‘stop him kasi may violation yan.”
The said warning is addressed to businessmen who have not been paying their taxes.
“Once it’s pending in court, your freedom of movement is (restricted),” said Duterte who vowed to order the Bureau of Internal Revenue to file cases against the tax violators adding that they would be treated like common criminals and will be barred from leaving the country.
“It’s always a crime if you do not pay your tax correctly. But if you pay what was assessed, I tell you that you will have no problem.”
Earlier, Duterte said that we would send the police to businessmen’s homes who failed in paying the correct tax saying, “I ask media to accompany the police” and that “the police will go there to ask why are you not paying proper tax.”
