26 Sep SPO1 Ronald Eugenio of Opol Police Station Promoted to the Next Rank by President Duterte
During the recent visit of President Rodrigo Duterte in Cagayan de Oro last September 22, 2016, he personally went to Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Ronald Eugenio’s hospital bed. Wounded Eugenio was promoted to the next rank on the spot by Duterte.
It was in August 8 when Eugenio, who was assigned at Opol Police Station, got injured sustaining gunshot wounds on his jaw and chest during a surveillance operation that was conducted over drug suspect Karl Vincent Barangot in Barangay Iponan who was then killed after the encounter.
Eugenio has already been confined in the hospital for over a month and is expected to be discharged this week. The hospital bill has ballooned to an estimated amount of P3 million, however, it is said to be covered by the president. Eugenio was also given P250,000 cash incentive.
“His support to uplift the living condition of policemen and soldiers through pay hike, makadugang kini sa kaigag sa police nga moserbisyo sa katawhan,” said spokesperson for Northern Mindanao police office Superintendent Surki Sereñas adding that President Duterte’s support towards the police has helped intensify and boost the morale of every law enforcer, motivating them to take it up a notch at doing their duties as law enforcers. “We will monitor activities of the police to ensure that no one would abuse his authority in the exercise of his functions.”
Medalya ng Kadakilaan was also awarded to the following officers with their outstanding performance in executing the government’s war on drugs by Duterte at Camp Alagar:
- Iligan City’s Police Superintendent Arniel Agustin Catarata
- Cagayan de Oro’s Police Superintendent Tom Tuzon
- Police Station 3, Agora, CDO’s Polic Chief Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas
