21 Jul Duterte warns congress of more terror attacks as Maute reaches out to ASG
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has cited his reasons for his proposal to extend the Martial Law in Mindanao in a letter he sent to the Congress last July 18, 2017.
In an article from Business World Online, Duterte said one of the reasons why he wanted to extend the Martial Law is the alleged plan of terrorist groups to attack other parts of the country wherein he stated in his letter that the Maute brothers are now reaching out and giving funds to the Abu-Sayyaf Group (ASG) in order to be able to carry out attacks in several places in Mindanao in Basilan, Cagayan de Oro City, General Santos, and Zamboanga City.
The President pointed out in his letter is the continued resistance of Islamist militants despite the decline of the numbers of their members.
He added that other terrorist groups from Mindanao were not shaken by the efforts of the government to dissolve their ranks and even showed an are ready to participate in carrying out attacks and uprisings under the leadership of Isnilon Hapilon.
He also said that rebels maintained regular recruitment of additional members from other sympathizer groups, and even their families and supporters.
