15 Feb Duterte’s Kitchen to Open in Carmen, CDO
In a report from Sun.Star, last February 11, 2017, Saturday, Duterte’s Kitchen CDO (DK-CDO), a non-government organization composed of volunteers in Cagayan de Oro, held its dry run at #20 Andres-Fernandez St, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro, with the main goal of serving free food to poor families and street children. DK-CDO was established as a way of supporting the government’s efforts in eradicating the number of hungry Filipinos.
On February 18, 2017, Saturday, will be the soft opening of DK-CDO where volunteers begin to initiate the feeding program for the poor individuals and families. It will be the 2nd Duterte’s Kitchen in the country following that of Cubao’s which opened last year, 2016..
According to Dorothy “Dadat” Balaba who is the secretary of DK-CDO’s organizing committee, DK-CDO is patterned after the “Lugaw ng Masa” feeding program in Davao City when Rodrigo Duterte was still assuming office ast the city mayor, and that it is non-sectarian and doesn’t have any political affiliation.
Relying only on donations, accepting in kind or of service donations, the ones regulating the center are the volunteers of about 20 for now, though there are those that come from outside organizations who provide help.
The beneficiaries will enjoy lunch and dinner every day with DK-CDO primarily in the form of soup along with other food depending on the available donations in the kitchen.
Aside from the feeding program, beneficiaries will also be provided livelihood education.
