On Saturday in the hinterlands of Bagumabayan, Sultan Kudarat, there are about 18,000 dynamites that were recovered by police and military officials from an abandoned Chinese mining site.
The dynamite was identified by the residents of Barangay Saripinang. It was retrieved from the mining site of Ippo China Mining Company said Sultan Kudarat police director, Senior Supt. Raul Supiter.
Supiter appeals to farmers in the area who kept some of the dynamites. As he spoke, “I appeal to the farmers to surrender the dynamites in their possession, this is dangerous. Mere possession of these dynamites is a crime offense and no bail bond recommended for violators.”
Each box contains 300 pieces of explosives and there were about 60 boxes, Supiter said. At the mining site, there were chemicals used for making explosives as recognized by the police officers and bomb experts.
Police were accompanied by the 57th Infantry Battalion and personnel from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the retrieval operation.
Journalists from Inquirer – Philippine newspaper, noted from the residents that there are Korean or Chinese nationals who were mining for copper and gold in the highlands of Sitio Kaloloy.
Andy Roquero, a resident of Barangay Saripinang told them, “We have been hearing blasts up there, there were mining activities in Sitio Kaloloy, but it seems they have stopped operation the past week.”
There were dump trucks, advanced mining and excavation equipment brought in the past, Roquero said. He added that residents in Sitio Kaloloy feared landslides and floods that may occur due to the mining in the uplands.
