Earth Hour 2016 in Cagayan de Oro: Shine A Light On Climate Action

Today, March 19, 2016 is the celebration proper of Earth Hour 2016, a global movement for the planet as organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature or WWF. This event on its 10th year, it has been recognized worldwide where millions of people turn off their lights for one hour annually, expressing their care for the planet.

On social media, particularly on Facebook, people have changed their profile pictures with those that have Earth Hour-2016 and a logo of the WWf on the upper right. On twitter, details have been widespread inviting everyone to turn off their lights at 8:30 PM later this day.

In the Philippines, most of the regions participate this significant movement. There are already parts in the country which had organized activities. Just like in Quezon City, when it’s time to turn off the lights that’ll start at 8:30 PM until 9:30 PM, Quezon Memorial Circle will still be powered with power-generating bicycles. Themed with “Shine A Light On Climate Action”, organized by the WWF-Philippines.

In Cagayan de Oro, there are activities during the said event at 1pm at the Capt. Vicente Roa Street Entrance of Centrio Ayala Mall, to be spearheaded by Habagat Outdoor Equipment partnered by the Ridge to Reef Young Leaders Camp and the Bantula Team. It will be this year’s biggest gathering bringing about 4,000 bikers, skateboarders, longboarders and runners. This event will be followed by The Bantula Concert at 4pm at Centrio Mall, featuring the Kulahi Band of Portulin Talaandig Tribal Association. There will also be a Night Walk and Night Ride as headed by the Habagat CDO in cooperation with the local government of Cagayan de Oro.

At SM City Cagayan de Oro, they will also “Shine A Light On Climate Action” that will be held at Las Ramblas Open Parking at 8:30 PM with performances from local artists.
