15 Oct Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Shook Agusan Del Norte, Intensity II in CDO
On October 15, Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), a magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook Agusan del Norte at 2:29 a.m.
The quake has a depth of 29 kilometers which strikes seven kilometers northwest of Magallanes, Agusan del Norte and was felt in Cagayan de Oro City and Surigao City.
Reported Intensity:
- Intensity V – Butuan City; Nasipit & Carmen, Agusan Del Norte
- Intensity IV – Remedios Romualdez & Magallanes, Agusan Del Norte
- Intensity III – Surigao City; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Mambajao, Camiguin
- Intensity II – Cagayan De Oro City
Another earthquake hit the same area with a magnitude of 3.3, thirty-eight minutes later.
Phivolcs said that the earthquake was tectonic in origin. It added that there were no reports of damage has been proclaimed.
The Philippines is located along a typhoon belt and the so-called Ring of Fire, a vast Pacific Ocean region where many of Earth’s earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
