As part of the government’s transport modernization program, prototype models of electric and solar-powered jeepneys will be tested for public use in Cagayan de Oro City. Announced by LTFRB-10 Regional Director Aminoden Guro.

According to Sunstar CDO, these vehicles, commonly known as “e-jeepneys” will showcase its features and operating capacity. So that the public, as well as PUJ drivers and operators, realize an e-jeepney’s benefits.

“Before we only heard about the modernization program, but it’s now a reality. People will see for themselves how efficient and convenience these e-jeeps are,” Guro said.

One Team, the private company that acquired these jeepneys will bring 15 units to the city according to Guro. These can be availed with a loan from the Land Bank or purchased for more than a million peso each.

These vehicles are equipped with GPS, an airconditioning system, a wifi connection, dashcam, a swiping machine for the fare and a capacity of 20 passengers.

Guro also added that the e-jeepney route (from Brgy. Puerto to Brgy. Igpit, Opol) proposal is now pending at the city council of Cagayan de Oro.
