EMB Finds High Level Of Coliform Bacteria In Seawater @ Brgy. Bonbon

Mga higala! According to a water quality test by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), high levels of coliform bacteria were detected in the seawater of Barangay Bonbon, in Cagayan de Oro City.

ICYDK, coliform can be found in soil or vegetation and in the intestinal tract and feces of animals and humans.

Based on a report by Sunstar CDO, the standard level of coliform content usually found in rivers and seas is only at 100 (MPN/100ml), but EMB’s test which was conducted in the 2nd quarter of 2019, showed that the coliform level in Bonbon reached 400.

However, City Health Officer- Dr. Lorraine Nery said that even though the 400 coliform level is already high, the test was conducted months ago and since seawater is a moving body of water, its possible that the coliform has been washed away.

They are now waiting for the water quality monitoring results from the DENR, so that that they can provide factual and accurate public advisory.

Moreover, there are still no reported cases of persons being hospitalized after swimming in the beaches of Brgy. Bonbon.
