06 Sep Ex-NPAs Reveal Rebel Recruitment In Cagayan de Oro City Schools

Mga higala! During the regular “Talakayan sa PIA” media event of the Philippine Information Agency-Region 10 last Friday, August 30, 2019, two (2) persons wearing bonnet masks revealed that they were former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) and claimed that they were tasked to recruit students from schools here in Cagayan de Oro City.
According to one of them, Lalaine (not her real name), 33 years old, she was recruited by the NPA and she then recruited young students for them in the colleges and universities of the city.
Lalaine also added that they were able to get inside different schools by borrowing various uniforms from their co-members and by using fake IDs.
In response to this, Brigadier General Edgardo de Leon, commander of the Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade, stated that they are looking to hold sustained information drives in schools and counter NPA recruitment activities with active information and education programs.
