04 Oct Facebook Lets You Buy and Sell Items In Your Local Community Through Recently Launched Marketplace
Facebook has become a venue where people can connect. And over the years, more and more people use it not only to connect but also to buy and sell with each other. This kind of activity has since started in Facebook Groups which then grew with more than 450 million people visit buy and sell groups each month, may it be from families in a local community or collectors across the globe.
And to make it more convenient to its users, Facebook just recently launched ‘Marketplace’ last October 3, 2016, where users can easily discover, buy, and sell items with people in a community. In order to visit Marketplace, you just have to tap on the shop icon located at the bottom of the Facebook app and then you can start exploring.
This new feature, Marketplace, directs you to a page filled with photos of items that people near your community have listed for sale. You can search for a specific item by tapping the ‘Search’ tab at the top and filter your results by location, category or price. You can also browse items from a variety of categories such as Electronics, Apparel, and Household. Make use of the built-in location tool to adjust the region you’re searching in, or simply switch to a different city. And when you find something interesting, you can tap on the image to view more details from the seller including the description of the product, name and profile picture of the seller, and location. You can also save the item to check it later.
And when you have decided to buy it, send the seller a direct message through Marketplace to tell them you want it and make an offer. Then, both parties can work out the details in any way you prefer. Moreover, Facebook does not facilitate the processes of payment or delivery of items in Marketplace.
How to post items for sale using Marketplace? Follow these following simple steps:
- Take a photo of your item, or add it from your camera roll
- Enter a product name, description, and price
- Confirm your location and select a category
- Post
After posting your item, anyone searching in your community can find your item and send you a message if ever they are interested in buying it. Know that you can also choose to post either to Marketplace or in a specific buy and sell group.
Visit the ‘Your Items’ tab to keep track of all your current and past transactions. It is where you can view your saved items, posted products for sale and all your sent messages to connected people.
Currently, Marketplace has been rolled out to four countries such as the US, Australia, UK, and New Zealand and is allowed to everyone over 18 years old on the Facebook app for iPhone and Android. It will be rolled out to more countries in the coming months and also its availability on the desktop.
