17 Nov 176 Families Affected by Demolition, Relocated Temporarily At Pagatpat Evacuation Center
After the writ of demolition happened on November 15, Tuesday, around 176 families in Barangay 31 were left homeless.
According to a report from Sun.Star, some of the residents were not willing to stay at the evacuation center offered by the City Government located in Barangay Pagatpat.
The covered court and food for the families were already settled yet no one was interested in transferring, said Cagayan de Oro City Administrator Dionnie Gersana.
The City Government prepared 40 properties for the families displaced by disasters and demolitions, however, residents of Barangay 31 were not interested in acquiring the lot, according to Gersana.
The residents want money as they intend to rent a house, Gersana said, adding that as they have observed, there are no available houses as of now, they just wanted to let them stay temporarily in Pagatpat while they are still looking for a location where they can live permanently.
A resident named, Vienny Bague complained about living in Pagatpat as her children are still studying and that the relocation area is way too far for them, it would affect their schooling.
Gersana said that the City Government already has the money but the problem is it will be processed again as it concerns land, it will go through appraisal and this will take long but the budget is already at hand through the approval of the supplemental budget.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office provided food assistance to the relocated residents.
