04 Oct Fire In Ancestral House @ Camiguin Kills 4 Senior Citizen Siblings
Mga higala! Four senior citizens, all siblings, were killed in a fire that burned down 2 houses at Camiguin Island, on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.
According to the Bureau of Fire and Protection-10 (BFP-10), the fire started at around 3:30 am, and a “fire out” was declared at 7:20 am, the damages were estimated to cost around 1 million pesos.
The victims were identified as Angelita Lao, 74; Tomasita Lao, 70; James Lao, 65; and Vergelio Lao, 64 years old.
In a statement, Fire Officer 3 Sergio Virtudazo Jr. of the Mahinog fire station said that “There were two teams who responded to the fire, but we could not get in and rescue the victims at the second floor since the fire was so intense.”
We tried our best but we could not get them out,” Virtudazo added.
Moreover, Chief Insp. Victor Rommel Cena, the commander of Mahinog Police Station, sadly revealed that the Lao brothers were only in Camiguin for a short visit and were supposed to leave that morning.
