Conducted at the Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro is the Mindanao leg and is the first of the three presidential debates for the near May 2016 elections.

For those who were given the opportunity and did witness the debate in person surely enjoyed this historical event where the five presidentiables namely Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe, and Manuel “Mar” Roxas II were head-on in answering the issues and their reasons in running for the position.

The debate was composed of three rounds where the presidential candidates were asked about the following:
FIRST ROUND: Candidate’s track record and performance
SECOND ROUND: About poverty and development
THIRD ROUND: Issues in Mindanao

But before anything else, the candidates were given the chance to say their opening statements within 60 seconds. Then proceeded to the three rounds where the candidates must explain and say their hearts out.

As the debate was about to end, the candidates gave their closing statements which tackled about why they should be elected as the president of the country. The following were the summary of their statements:

BINAY: He gave stress to his long track record in servicing the government and sympathy for the poor.
SANTIAGO: She said that the Philippines need a leader who is academically, professionally and morally excellent.
DUTERTE: He iterated his platforms on anti-criminality and anti-drug.
POE: She said that her lack of experience does not mean that she can’t see the nation’s problems.
