23 Jan Recent Flood Victims in Mindanao to Receive P6.4M Relief Assistance from DSWD
Some parts of Visayas and Mindanao, specifically in the areas of Negros Island, Central and Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao, were affected by the recent flooding due to long hours of continued rainfall which prompted families to evacuate. And as a part of augmentation support, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided P6,415,628.36 to the affected local government units (LGUs).
Based on records, a total of 58,334 families or about 276, 860 persons in 482 barangays in the 5 regions were displaced due to the flooding, of which some 17,237 families stayed in 200 evacuation centers, the rest with friends and relatives.
According to a report from The Manila Times, as of January 20, 2017, Friday, additional relief goods had been sent to Region 10, particularly in Misamis Oriental, which was greatly devastated from heavy flooding.
