27 Oct Prices of Flowers in CDO Increase as Undas Approaches
With the All Souls’ Day to happen next week, the prices of flowers in Cagayan de Oro already started rising up to twice their regular price. And according to flower vendors settled in Cogon area, the increase of their flowers is being made to meet the expected demand for the Undas celebration come November 1 and 2.
Cogon flower vendor Ester Montalban as asked by Sun.Star, said that most of the flowers they’ll be selling will have a price increase of P20. Depending on the type of flower, prices will start from P500 to P1500 per dozen. And with their potted flowers which cost P40 to P80 on regular days, the pricing will be from P100 to P150 per pot.
As reasoned out by vendors, the price increase of P20 to P30 of their flowers is mainly due to the transportation fees for most of their flowers come from Bukidnon, Claveria, Cotabato, Davao and Valencia. To consider that prices vary depending on where the flowers are bought.
Meanwhile, Daisy Duran, who is a member vendor of the Saint Augustine Religious and Flower Vendors’ Association and who sells near St. Augustine Cathedral when asked by Sun.Star regarding their flower prices this coming Undas, she said that they regularly increase the prices during days of All Souls’ and All Saints’. She then added Undas is the only season with no specific type of flower that is highly being demanded compared to other holidays like Valentines’ Day, thus, they are enabled to adjust prices for all of their flowers.
When it comes to prices of candles, there were no observed increase. Candlesticks can still be bought for P2 to P5 while colored candles are at P3 to P40 depending on the length. With vigil candles available for P7 to P15, outdoor candles at P55, and candles in glasses also called as “tanduay” at P100 to P150.
