20 Jun Longest-serving CdeO Mayor Ambing Magtajas dies at 77
Former Cagayan de Oro Mayor died last night June 19 at the age of 77. In an article from Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, the cause of death was myocardial infarction or heart attack.
Magtajas served as city mayor from 1984 to 1998 and was considered the longest-serving mayor who had served the city for 14 years.
The former mayor served as a city auditor and a well-rounded lawyer before turning into politics. The Magtajas administration was a witnessed to martial law after former Mayor Aquilino Pimentel and was the brainchild of the “Duaw sa Kagayan” which was a meeting place for returning citizens from Canada and United States.
He also created “Kumbira” which is now a popular school competition for those who are pursuing career in culinary.
He left politics after unsuccessfully returning to the mayoral seat last 2007.
