In an article from Sunstar CdeO, police forces on Wednesday, June 7, nabbed the former Marawi City Mayor Fajad Umpar Salic, who has an alleged association with the Maute group, was arrested while passing through a checkpoint at Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.
Heading to Cagayan de Oro City, Salic was aboard a Ford Ranger Pickup Truck when he was apprehended by policemen from the Misamis Oriental Provincial Public Safety Company.
Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao spokesperson, Lemuel Gonda, said that the former Marawi City Mayor was charged with rebellion for violating Article 134 of the Revised Penal Code.
Salic was also said to be related to the Maute brothers through his marriage with their cousin Rasmia.
Last year, reports said that he served as a mediator between the Philippine government and the Maute Group for peace-keeping negotiations and was also tapped by President Duterte to help him convince the Maute brothers into the peace negotiations.
