21 Jun Gina Lopez Agrees to Become DENR Secretary

On Tuesday, June 21, Gina Lopez, the ABS-CBN Foundation chairperson and anti-mining advocate confirmed her acceptance of the president-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s offer of becoming DENR’s head.
Lopez said in a statement, “I don’t just want to regulate, I want to address the poverty.”
She also added, saying, “It can be done if we keep our resources safe. That’s my experience.”
Lopez is known for her stand against controversial mining projects, opposing the use of fossil fuels as energy sources and coal mining.
A lot of environmental groups and a bunch of netizens praised Duterte’s excellent choice of having Lopez as the next DENR secretary.
