14 Sep Grade 9 Teacher in CDO Stabbed Three Times by Her 15-Year-Old Student Inside the Classroom
Last September 13, 2016, Tuesday, a teacher was stabbed three times in the back by her 15-year-old student while inside their classroom at the Pedro “Oloy” N. Roa Senior High School located at Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro.
Identified as Vilma Cabactulan, 43 and the class adviser of Grade IX- Mendeleev of the said school, was brought to Madonna and Child Hospital but later died.
According to Bulua Police Station’s Senior Police Officer 4 Dominador Datahan, the student silently and promptly stabbed Cabactulan while facing opposite the class. The murder weapon used was a 7-inch knife which was recovered along with the student’s bag as said by Police Chief Inspector Arvies Altitche.
The suspect may have fled from the scene but was later persuaded by his parents and uncle to surrender himself to the Regional Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Northern Mindanao. He was then turned over to the Bulua Police Station’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) to undergo psycho-social and medical examination.
Meanwhile, the suspect told the investigators that there were two other students, both his classmates, who were supposedly involved in the incident. As said by the station’s WCPD Police Officer 1 Marian Mae Tolentino, “He only said that he was particularly and repeatedly reprimanded and humiliated by their teacher. Also according to his side of the story, it was not him who had the grudge against the teacher.” She added that the three students agreed to draw lots in determining who’s going to do the stabbing and that the knife was only handed to the suspect inside the school. They have yet to talk to the other students pointed by the suspect.
The classmates of the suspect described him as silent and that he may have held a grudge towards Cabactulan for long, for he had been reprimanded by Cabactulan for absences and repeated use of his cell phone while being in the class.
