23 Feb Grenade Explosion Kills One Student, Injures 3 Others in Zamboanga del Sur
In a report from the Inquirer, a grenade exploded inside the school campus of Comprehensive National High School in Barangay Poblacion, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur which stole the life of a student and injured 3 others last February 22, 2017, Wednesday morning.
According to the police chief for Western Mindanao, Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, the grenade, specifically an M79 grenade, was found by the students on campus grounds. He added that the students played with the grenade, however, it was dropped on the concrete floor which triggered it to explode.
All of the wounded students were seventh graders, with the other student died while given treatment at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center.
The members of the Explosives and Ordnance Division from the military and police have been clearing the campus premises, said Beltran adding that they are to identify how the grenade got into the school and what group may have left it.
