30 Aug Hapsay Buhay, IBP Conduct Free Legal Clinic At Cdeo City Jail
In an article from Cagayan de Oro News Bulletin, a free legal assistance was given to the inmates of Cagayan de Oro City Jail led by the administration of incumbent Cagayan de Oro City Mayor, Oscar Moreno.
The program was served by Atty. Ernesto Neri Jr. together with the President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro Chapter (IBP MisOr-CDO), Atty. Eddie Cuaresma.
According to the Hapsay Buhay Coordinator Patrick Gabunita, the aim of this program is to give free legal assistance to the inmates especially those who have already overstayed in jail due to the lack of lawyers who are supposed to handle their cases.
The IBP MisOr-CDO and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology believe that if they will help the inmates legally, especially those who are only facing minor cases, possibilities are big that they can be released as early as possible.When that happens, there will be more space for the remaining inmates of the jail institution.
In relation to that, the city administration of CdeO has now allocated P20 million funds to build a three-story building that is capable of holding inmates from the city jail.
