30 Aug Higalaay Fluvial Procession: An appreciation of the magnificent Cagayan de Oro River
Cagayan de Oro City is endowed with wonderful natural waters that have lived through thick and thin of time. Perhaps, the greatest water attraction Kagay-anons could ever boast of is the magnificent Cagayan de Oro River. That is why even in the celebration of the city’s fiesta, it is always part of the itinerary of events to include Cagayan de Oro River as one of the most accessible and cheapest resources to hold exemplary events. One of these is the Fluvial Procession held this year with the aim to remember and promote the importance of the river to the city and to those who are taking the time to marvel at its beauty and essence.
The Fluvial Procession is also for the purpose of blessing the river and to encourage more people in the efforts to protect the river against harsh environments and conditions.
The procession started at the Macajalar Bay and ended at the river’s basin along Duaw Park at St. Augustine Cathedral Church last August 28, 2017. It was participated by different fluvial floats from different barangays in the city that were beautifully adorned and created after religious entities of the Catholic church.
With the many appealing and lively activities conducted during the Higalaay Festival, it is also important to go back to the true essence of why Cagayan de Oro is celebrating another momentous season of happiness and friendship. It is giving nature the credit as the main provider of the most basic things to achieving a comfortable life and preserving it for the next generations to come.
